The gap between that goal (i.e., zero recordable incidents) and practice remains alarmingly wide: Over 370,000 cases of nonfatal manufacturing injuries and illnesses were recorded in 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. And fatalities? Over 340. That represents nearly one manufacturing worker killed each calendar day.
